American Pop Culture!
Listen to the interview with Scott about his home country, the United States. Take notes about what you hear.

Interview Questions:
(1) What is your definition of pop culture?

(2) Can you give me an example of pop culture from you country?

(3) What's something that you think would be difficult for English language learners to understand about your country's pop culture?

(4) What's your favorite part of your country's pop culture, and why?

(5) What popular Japanese pop culture is in your country now?
Assignment #1:

(1) Listen to the interview with Scott.

(2) Go to the
Listening Cloze Activity and fill in the blanks based on what you hear in the interview. If you are having problems, ask your partner for help. 

(3) In groups of 4, write a short script about American pop culture. See guidelines below.

(4) Memorize your script and present it in front of the class on the last day of class, July 23.

Script Guidelines:
• use at least 5 new words and/or expressions from Scott's interview
• use at least 3 different props
• skit is no more than 5 minutes in length
• type your skit
• prepare 25 copies of your skit (for each student in class)
• memorize your lines (each student must have at least 4 speaking lines)
Assignment #2:

(1) Choose ONE of the areas of pop culture Scott talked about in the interview and write a 600-word report. Format is A4 size, Times New Roman, font size 12, 1.5 spacing, and 25mm margins. Include a word count at the end. Use 2 English-language websites for your research, but you must cite (list) them at the end of the report. **Do not copy any words from the websites. All words must be your own.**

Ideas to write about in your report:
     a. Why did you choose this topic?
     b. What did you learn about this topic?
     c. What is something truly fascinating / interesting / funny / strange / impressive
     about this topic?
     d.What is difficult for English-language learners to learn about this topic?

(2) Present your paper to a small group of students on the last day of class, July 23. You will talk briefly about why you chose the topic and some interesting features of that topic
