What is Liero?
Liero is a third person, 2-dimensional deathmatch style game. There are
four gamestyles, including "Kill 'em all", "Game of Tag",
"Capture the Flag" and "Simple Capture the Flag". At the start of each
game you choose 5 of the 40 weapons provided (oh yes, that's right, 40 weapons!).
Oh, and by the way, it's completely free.
The thing that you control is a little worm. Its colour can be changed as you see fit, and
it can dig and is equipped with a very elastic-y rope. The rope can be very useful for
getting out of dangerous areas very quickly. It can also be used to pull your opponent
toward you, in order to kill it.
As it is a Dos game, the graphics are rather poor. The resolution is 320 X 200 and cannot
be changed, but who cares? The point is that it's great fun. A good thing about it's
Dos-iness, is that it can be played on a 486!
There is no network or internet play available, which has annoyed many people. Many
unofficial sequels are being developed in order to overcome this annoyance, so that the
world can play Liero together. If you have Linux, then a network version of Liero is
already available. Check out "Nil" on the Links page of the official Liero site.
