Who Moved My Cheese-Spencer Johnson Life is full of changes so make the best of it and be pro-active. To Kill A Mockingbird- Harper Lee The story takes place during the Depression in Alabama. A very entertaining tale of the Finch family and a drama created by children. Beloved - Toni Morrison The sad story of when the past can preceed the present and a dead child can rock the whole house. Odyssey- Homer A favorite for thousands of years, this book takes place after the Trojan War and Odysseus's flight home. The Illiad- Homer The oldest surviving Greek Epic, that consist of 24 books with some fact and fiction. Little Women- Louisa May Alcott The author wrote this novel based on her own memories of Germantown, Pennsylvania. This book makes you feel as if you were a March sister living in the nineteenth century. Tuesday's With Morrie- Mitch Albom A favorite of many this book talks about a student, teacher relationship that tackles many topics including "The Meaning of Life." The Scarlet Letter- Nathanial Hawthorne A classic that should be read by all. This novel helps you discover the Puritan way of life and what it was like to live back then. The Crucible- Arthur Miller A dark period of Colonial American History when the Salem witch trials took place. Walden - Henry David Thoreau A novel that explores all of nature as Thoreau tries to find a spiritual awakening by returning to a simple life. Emma - Jane Austen This book has a skillful use of irony that makes reading it delightful. You want the novel to go on forever because you feel as if you live in Highbury with the characters. Tracks - Louise Erdrich Set in North Dakota when Native Americans struggled to keep their land. A tale of men and women being pushed to the brink of their endurance. Little - David Treuer A very honest book about life on a reservation called Poverty The Color Line - Fredrick Douglas A honest look into racism. This essay is moving and inspiring. |
