Welcome to my homepage. This is my hobby and passion. By better understanding your ancestries, where they come from, and who they were helps you better understand who you are. I love history and especially when it is your own, learning about all those that are responsible for who you are. From your eye color, hair, height, etc etc. I have been interested in family history ever since I read a diary an uncle found hidden behind a wall in a old hotel he was helping to tear down. I was twenty years old at the time and just starting to get interested and curious about my family history. I found out the age of the man writing the diary in 1874 was twenty two. He talked of this thoughts, worries, adventures, etc. He was telling someone reading it in the late 20th century what life was like for someone my age in his time. Even though he was not related to me I found it fasinating reading. When I was a kid my father would take us to Shiloh and other interesting places. So I guess my father helped by his interest in Historical places to spark my interest. So over the last several years my interest has grown into a passion in going to cemeteries, courthouses, libraries, census records, Bible records, Wills, Land records, and in the last ten years of having a computer, genealogy on the internet, finding distant cousins and they finding me through Surname Forums. The memories and stories passed down by the older family members are sometimes helpful and interesting but you can't take them as fact when research hunting for true documentation. The first NUNLEY that I am able to find in Tishomingo Co. Ms is John Nunley. He was born around 1795. He came from Warren Co. Tn to Tishomingo Co. Ms. around 1836 or 37. He is listed in the State Tax Census of this time. His wifes name was Mahala Boone Nunley, born in Kentucky. My great great grandfather was William M. Nunley, born 1833 in Tn. His tombstone says he was born in 1822 but from the records I have found it appears he was born in 1833. The first documentation I have for William is when he marries Amanda Jane Carpenter in December of 1852 in Alcorn Co. She was living with the Abner Moody family in the 1850 Census of Tishomingo Co. She was the youngest child of James and Mahala Mays Carpenter who had both died and she was with the Moodys at age 15 during this census. More about her on a link to Amanda's page I am working on. I have not been able to find William M. Nunley in any records so far before 1852. In the 1850 census I have not been able to find him anywhere, but at the age of around 17 he could have been anywhere or on his way to some Uncle to live to help with the farm or learn a trade. So it is an on going hunt for where William M. Nunley came from before 1852 and who his parents were. I will be adding more about him on his personal page in this website. He died in October of 1909 and was in the 11th Alabama Calvary, Company B. If you should find him in your research I would give my left arm for the imformation. Would be so very grateful if you would send me an email where you find him. Please check out my other pages about him and my other Nunleys. Thanks for visiting my site. |
