With the advent of science fiction and fantasy writing, dragons can symbolize anything and everything; they can be good or evil, with old legends and new ideas about them combined.
For myself, the dragon is a benevolent, mighty, and generous being who can aid me when I need magick and fire in my life. In many ways, he is my keeper of magick. He can sweep me away from the mundane world, fulfill my wildest fantasies, and protect me from those who would do me harm.
Little Dragon By Moonsinger
I espied a tiny dragon, yes, just! I ne'er dreamt I'd do it! But I followed a trail of fiery dust, And it led me right to it. He was just a little fellow, A dragon of the desert, He was sleepy, and so mellow, And what a lovely treasure! Curled up beside a rock, Waking up from noonday nap, He looked at me in shock, His tail he gave a snap! He knew I'd do him no harm, He knew it definitely, For dragons have a special charm It's called "Draco-homo-telepathy" So he let me stroke his golden scales, And sit with him awhile. He told me lots of dragon tales, He regaled them with smile. Alas, the sun was going down, I had to head back home. He said, "M'lady, please don't frown, But remember this day we've known." That was so many years gone past, My hair now silver, my eyes now dim. It's a memory my old heart holds fast, And when I'm sad, I think of him. My little dragon of the sand So golden and so fey, And when I cross to Summerland, I'll see him that fine day! October 1997
