Start of Season Thoughts
This season we are playing in the championship and with it comes a different challenge all together. Our main aim this season is to stay up and with Back Of The Net FC in our league and 2 new teams of an unknown quantity, it is completely feasible that we could stay up. I predict that B.T. FC will win the division with 50 Chip Sticks/Wilkinson’s going up in 2nd place. The one match I am relishing is the continuation of the rivalry against my brother’s team, Back Of The Net FC.

SS 9 - B.T. FC 9 18th Oct 2005
This week we played B.T FC, the team we were promoted with last season. This was going to be a tough match, as B.T FC had won all the previous battles.

The match started badly with us conceding 3 goals, before Paul replied with the first of his 7 goals on the night (vote for him on player of the month nominations). The first half was a battle with us trying to keep in touch with BT, never going more than 3 goals down. Paul scored all the goals in this half and at half time we were only 1 goal down (I think 5 – 4).

The 2nd half was equally a battle, with late challenges going in and a needless overreaction against James C, which was completely uncalled for. During this half we were always behind or level up until the last 3 minutes. Goals from Me, Paul (2) and Spanton put us in the lead, before we conceded a ninth goal to get a well earned point. B.T. FC scored a couple of decent goals, including a cracking strike from there keeper.

Overall a good result and if we play like that every week, we have every chance of staying in the championship.
SS 5 - Wilkinson's 2
25th Oct 2005
This week we played one of my favourites for promotion and I anticipated a tough match. When the Wilkinson team lined up they had 2 or 3 Seafront players playing for them, so our challenge was also increased.

From the outset the match was tight, niggly and did not flow at all. The match started badly for us with Wilkinson’s scoring an early goal to take the lead. We eventually equalised after a decent strike from Graham. Before half time Andy did a nice little flick and put us in the lead for the first time in the match.

The 2nd half was a battling performance from the entire Sharp Shooters team with everyone doing there job. Paul scored 2 goals to put us 4 – 1 up with only 5 minutes to play, but alas with some sloppy defending we conceded a 2nd. The silver lining was that Paul completed his hat trick scoring straight from centre. The 2nd half was a tough performance in which we had some scares, nearly conceding from a back heel and charging down a free kick like American football.

Overall one of the best displays for a long time, which culminated in Dave being selected as player of the week by the ref. In my opinion the player of the week was James C who played well and did everything asked of him. We are now in the promotion spot, lets hope we can stay there (now no laughing). On a serious note 4 points from the opening 2 games is a good achievement. Let’s hope we keep it up.
SS 5 -
Baines FC 5
1st Nov 2005
Tonight’s match was against a new team at Pitch Invasion and an unknown quantity.

The match started badly for us after we conceded a goal with in 10 seconds, at this point I thought that it be one of them games. Graham quickly equalised though within 2 minutes to ensure we were still in it. The half was tight and I think that we had the better of the play. We managed to score 2 more goals this half, one from Andy and one from myself, which meant that at half time we had the lead, despite conceding another goal.

In the 2nd half we played as a team, defended, attacked and managed to open up a crucial 2 goal lead. James C went on a dazzling run, beat 2 players and slotted one in the bottom corner, it was Brazilian-esque. We were on top with our 2 goal lead, but again conceded a well worked goal to reduce the deficit. It was getting tense and with 5 minutes to go, Graham scored his 2nd of the night to again give us a cushion. We couldn’t hold onto it though and conceded two goals (both from the blonde bloke) to only claim a point.

Overall this was 2 points wasted as we were the better team, but they worked hard and deserved their points. They are definitely a beatable team.
