50 Chip Sticks 4

This week we played against 50 Chip Sticks, which had the potential to be a close game.

The match started well with both keepers in fine form. Despite some early pressure from us, we couldn’t break the dead lock and ended conceding a goal. Karl nabbed the ball off me and slotted one in the corner. From then on they we played well and both teams created chances, the better being created by 50CS. Tom, Paul and I all scored goals in this half to make it 3 – 1 at half time. My goal was a rebound form Paul’s shot, Paul then scored one of his own and the other a superb strike from Tom.

The 2nd half we were on top, up until the last 5 minutes and during the period prior to this they scored 3 goals and I completed my hat trick with a nice shot in the bottom corner and goal straight from a corner kick (sorry to mention that Lee). The moment of controversy came when they scored a 5th goal in the last 5 minutes, which was ruled out for the ball going out of play. Me myself didn’t see it as I was tracking the player, so I can’t comment further.

Overall a good performance against 50CS, which we deserved to win. They didn’t take there chances and it counted against them. A very good performance by both keepers tonight. Next week we have Tetrelis in a crucial battle.

Tetrelis FC 11 15th Nov 2005
This week we played Tetrelis FC in another tough game this season.

The match started badly for us after we conceded two quick goals due to a lack of marking, before we managed to score our first goal of the night. It was a nice strike from Spanton after a mix up Tetrelis defence. At this point I thought that we would get back on our game and pull it back, but alas we conceded another 4 goals before Paul pulled one back to 6 – 2. To round off a cracking half we conceded an own goal after Dave pulled off a great save, but bounced in off Paul.

The 2nd half started in the same way with us not closing people down and making an ordinary team look very good. The only bright part of the 2nd half was Spanton scoring his 2nd of the game, after a nice pass from myself. We conceded another 4 goals this half to collapse to our biggest defeat of the season.

Overall a poor performance and one which we deserved to lose by the margin we did. We made the mistake of believing that we could beat anyone and we didn’t close people down, mark people and our general display was terrible. Every cloud has a silver lining and in this case it proves that we are not infallible. Onto next week against Metrows FC.

This match was against a team that had not won all season and barring a miracle were already relegated.

The match started well for us with Andy scoring a hat trick in 3 minutes, followed by my first of the night. In the first four minutes, we had 4 shots and 4 goals. This theme went through to half time, by which point we had scored 9 and Metrows FC had scored 2.

The 2nd half started in the same vein of form, although the fact that they kept changing the keeper did not help matters (there keeper didn’t turn up). We scored 5 more in this half to ensure that this result would keep us in the promotion hunt. Overall the goals scored below were Paul (5), Andy (5), Daniel (Me, 2), Tom (1), James C (1). Metrows to there credit kept plugging away and were rewarded with 2 consolation goals, In the 2nd half tempers were frayed and Metrows repeatedly said we were cheating etc etc. One of there players put both hand round Andy’s throat, yet the player escaped punishment, in my and everyone else’s opinions he should have been sent off.

Overall a great performance against a poor side that, next week we play BOTN in what is a crunch match.

BOTN FC 3

This match was a tight match against my brothers team as always (not including there previous 11 - 1 thrashing).

The match started very tightly with both teams knowing that with victory, came a huge chance of promotion depending on the other result. Both teams weren’t giving much away, with the opening goal coming from James C who bundled it in the net. They responded through Billy to quickly equalise, before my right foot shot after one touch passing, from Paul to Andy to James to me, trickled in past Steve to give us the lead. At half time we were on top in this grudge match.

The 2nd half started the same as first with both teams tight at the back, we were the first to concede this half after a goal from Billy, but Paul again gave us the lead with a decent strike. We holding on to our slender advantage, before poor marking by myself let Martin in to rattle a equalising goal with 6 minutes to go. From then on it was even tighter with both teams knowing that one mistake good cost the match. The winning goal came form a free kick; after James sweetly struck the ball, it took 2 deflections and rolled between Steve’s legs (Beckham-esque almost).

Overall a very good performance against BOTN, but as the other result didn’t go our way the result meant we finished in 3rd place.

At the start of this season, my only goal was to stay in this division and beat Back of The Net FC. During the course of the last 7 weeks we have managed to achieve this and more. We lost only once in the 7 games to Tetrelis and picked up impressive victories against BOTN FC and Wilkinsons. We finished 3rd this season in a tight finale, we won our match and waited upon the result of the fixture between B.T v Tetrelis. It was an agonising 36 minutes, but it didn’t go our way and we stayed in the championship. Overall a brilliant season, a long way past my expectations.
