Start of Season Thoughts |
This season my aim would be to stay up, but I think that this is unrealistic as we are a long way away from playing as a team and adjusting to the change in conditions. I can see a season of struggle, with BOTN FC gaining promotion as I can imagine that their players should be able to adapt to that style of play. My prediction for this season is 4th (out of 4) and maybe 3rd if we play a couple of decent games. |

SS 2 - BOTN FC 2 4th Sept 2006 |
This week we played BOTN FC in the 1st game of the season, which must be fate.
The 1st half was a tight affair with BOTN having the majority of the attacking possession. They in fact opened the scoring when Paul lost his man after a through ball and Tony finished calmly. The rest of this half we defended sufficiently and restricted them to few clear cut chances. We managed to equalise after Fung went in for a crunching challenge in their half, for the ball to go loose in front of him. He then went and slotted it in coolly. In the 2nd half we played the same as the first and although they created chances, most of them were blasted wide, with the exception of Graham C & Steve, which called Dave into action (Dave had a cracking game). BOTN FC took the lead at the beginning of the half, but we responded almost instantly after a delicate long ball by me (hoof up the field aimlessly), landed on Paul’s foot to volley home. Overall a decent performance and 1 more point than I though we would score this season. Next week hopefully we can build on this. |
This week we played the Badgers in an important game, to see if we could follow up last weeks result.
The match started badly for us conceding an early-ish goal after some nice work from their attacker. The rest of the half was a scrappy affair with neither team really creating many chances. At half time we were only 1 goal down and were full of hope. The 2nd half started and for the first 5 minutes we played simple football, passing it around and looking superb, but unfortunately we could capitalise. After this point the Badgers started getting into the game more and more. We went two goals down with 10 minutes to go, after their attacker wasn’t closed down quick enough. Their third was a lob up pitch and me not being quick or good enough to stop it. It was an absolutely appalling piece of play by me. Overall good and bad points in the match, we know we can play around teams, we just need to do it for the whole game. |
SS 0 - The Badgers 3 11th Sept 2006 |
SS 1 - White Lions 0 18th Sept 2006 |
This week we played the White Lions, a team we narrowly lost too in our last meeting.
The match started well with us looking the better team, we were passing the ball around and not just punting long hopeful balls into the corner. We were looking sharp and it resulted in two early chances for me, both scuffed miserably. Other people had chances, but unfortunately we couldn’t capitalise. We defended well this half and cleared up any attacks they created. The 2nd half started much the same way, but with a couple of defensive lapses saw Dave come to the rescue. We continued to pass the ball around and it looked like a 0 – 0 draw would be inevitable. We managed to knick a goal though in the last 2 minutes, after Toms low hard strike gave us our first win. Overall a vast improvement form the last time we played them and our first victory. |
