Melanie is a 10 year old girl when she leaves together with Paul and Brenda on her journey. She doesn't join the group from the beginning. she joins the group when Paul and Brenda fight for their first badge.
She's from Flower Bud City and she's the baby sister of the gymleader Paris.

Melanie is very curious about certain things. She's not afraid to ask trainers or other people, why they do things like that or to ask for information about a certain town or pokemon.

she got her first pokemon, Bulbasaur from her sister.
