Synopsis
At the end of the Yuan Dynasty in 14th century China, the whole country was under Mongolian rule, the Mongolian, the Han and the Koryo (ancient Korean) migrants were going through racial conflicts, while experiencing the strife due to the rivalry between the local barons and warlords.
The film begins with a spectacular fighting scene between Mongolian soldiers and the Ten Swordsmen led by Jaharang. In spite of his victory, he seems to be troubled. The story then goes back to the spring of 1343, at Sanmaehyun in China's Habook Fortress.
Jinha, an orphan, and Sullie, illegitimate daughter of a Mongolian commander, became close friends and fell in love. Against their wills, Sullie's father, Tarugal, takes her with him to Sohung right after her mother's death. Jinha's uncle, Kwakjung, confesses at his death-bed that he is actually Jinha's family servant. Jinha ,the only surviving descendant from a rich Koryo merchant family, learnt the truth of his parents' death. He later decides to find Sullie in Sohung.
Jinha masters the most powerful martial arts, known as the Bichun Secret Arts, which was the reason why his family was killed. On the way to Sohung, he gets attacked by assassins and Junkwang saves him coincidently. Jinha finally meets Sullie only to find her betrothed to no other than Junkwang, the man who saved his life. However, there is no stopping Jinha and Sullie as they try to elope.
Trapped by Junkwang and Tarugal, Jinha is shot by arrows and falls from a cliff. Miraculously brought back to life, Jinha is reborn as Jaharang, a hired assassin. He kills Tarugal and brings chaos to Junkwang's house. There he re-encounters Sullie, but a deep gap exists between them from all the years.
