The tournament, which took place on November 17, 2001, attracted badminton aficionadoes from Arkansas, Illinois, Missouri, Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee. A total of 55 players participated in the one-day event. In the pool of 30 men in the open singles bracket, it was Kazuhisa Iwabuchi from UT Martin who defeated Yaowu Zhao from Nashville to capture the crown. Zhao was the champion from last spring's W.T.
