ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
To Mrs. Estela T. Alba, goes the credit of processing invaluable historical collections and papers about the history of Ibajay, Aklan. Her "acts" which were handed down to her from her ancestral roots were meticulously handwritten and is, therefore, a treasure worth preserving for posterity. It is, however, very unfortunate that some manuscripts borrowed from her were never returned hence, considered lost completely. To the Ibajaynons, therefore, Mrs. Alba could be considered as the first and most worthy collector and compiler of historical facts and figures about Ibajay. Under this critiria she could easily be listed as an outstanding Ibajaynon.

Derrick Tumbagahan Blanco was born to Felimar M Blanco and Melba T. Tumbagahan both of Ibajay, on March 27, 1976. Both Derrick and his mother followed his father to the United States when he was about 8 months old. He learned how to read before entering kindergarten, thanks to the Texas Instruments' Speak & Spell.
Because of his class standing in grade school, he was accepted at the Lanier Middle School, a magnet school for talented children in Houston, Texas. After passing the entrance examination given by Phillips Exeter Academy, thru ABC - the "A Better Chance", locator of gifted and talented students all over the country, he was accepted and admitted by the said school.
He spent his four-year high school in Exeter, NH, as a recipient of various grants and scholarships, including that of a little known, The Benigno Aquino Foundation out in Boston, MA. He finished his high school in 1994, after taking 60 credit hours, total. He then enrolled at University of Texas (at Austin) the following Fall. Because of the more advance subjects he took at Exeter, he was credited some 27 college hours as he entered college, after having been tested on those courses. He finished his degree requirements in just a little less than four years, but due to the university's policy that he has to take so much credit hours from the university itself to be considered as UT graduate, so he took advance subjects over and above what his degree required. He graduated with Honors May 23rd, 1998, with the BS degree in Computer Science.
Though he studied French as his second language, he too, can speak Tagalog. His Aklanon is as fluent as his Tagalog but not so with his Ilonggo. He even once surprised his non-Aklanon speaking "tubong-Maynilang mga pinsan" when he spoke to them in Aklanon. He has recently also gotten away with conversational Spanish with no formal education.
He received his Master’s in Business Administration from the Bauer College of Business at the University of Houston in 2004.
He is on his tenth year at Continental Airlines at its Corporate Headquarters in Houston, as a Technology Manager.
