28/12/05 - BSX Event in January

There is a class for chix at the BSX event being run by BMX Ultra on Jan 18, at Kinglake West, 1 hour North of Melbourne.  So far there are 7 names for the chix class.

Shane from BMX Ultra has done all he can to make it safe for the girls, but it is very technical, and will require a little jumping.

If there are any girls out there with good jumping skills that are hitting up the Track Attack races you might want to get along to the BSX

Prize money is payback, the break down is 1st = 40%, 2nd = 30%, 3rd = 20% and 4th = 10%.  So if there are 10 girls (entry fee is $30) the pool is $300, the break down would be $120, $90, $60, $30.

The event is primarily to raise money for the Royal Children's Hospital Foundation, but also give the riders something different to the standard style of racing that we are all used to.  There is separate insurance taken out for the event.  It is not sanctioned by BMXA.  So if a rider is interested but not licenced, they can still race.

For more information check out www.bmxultra.com/bsx.

27/12/05 - 17+ Female Challenge Classes at World Titles
The below information is from BMX Chixx.  They have contacted the UCI to enquire about 17+ challenge classes for females at future World Titles.

The female challenge cruiser classes will remain.  At present the UCI isn't considering adding a 30+ women cruiser class.

The UCI will discuss the possibility of including a 17+ 20" challenge class for females.  This is going to be discussed in January 2006 and if they feel confident that they will have a sufficient number of participants in 2006, it will be announced for the 2006 Worlds.  If not probably for 2007.....

If you will participate in a 17+ 20" female challenge class at the World Titles in Brazil in 2006 please e-mail Mascha van Spellen at M_vanspellen@hotmail.com with your name, birthdate, country of origin and e-mail address.  She will then e-mail a list to the UCI, who will then decide if the field of participants is big enough to start the class at this years World Championships.

27/12/05 - BMX South Queensland News
Beenleigh BMX Club was the host of the Southern Zone Novice workshop on Dec 11th, which is a great location to for all levels of workshop activities. The riders were split into 2 groups which allowed for quality coaching at similar skill levels and age groups.  Riders were aged between 8 - 15 years old which was great to see a wide range of riders participating and taking advantage of the work shop. The Work shop was catered for the Novice riders to get ready for the Southern Zone Shoot out series starting Jan 21st.  Southern Zone Coaching co ordinator, Wade Bootes was assisted by Julian Lim which they covered all area's of BMX racing.  The workshop covered the gate, jumps, corners, training drills, nutrition and mental preparation.  These riders also had the first run on the New BMXtronic Gate that will be given away to one of the top 3 riders in the Southern Zone DK Shoot Out Series.  The gate was used for their sprinting session which also recorded their times.  The riders and parents were extremely happy with the 5 hours workshop which had an hour lunch break and drink breaks after each activity.

The Southern Zone will have 2 more works shops in 2006, one will be after the Southern Zone DK Shoot Out Series to get riders ready for the Southern Zone Championships and then one after the Zone Championships to get riders ready and training for the State Championships.  Selection criteria and dates will be announced during the DK Shoot Out Series.

30/9/05 - 19+ Challenge Classes at World Titles
The following information was taken from the BMX Chixx website.

Mr. Lindstrom's response to the question 'why isn't there a challenge women 17+ class in Bercy this year':

Unfortunately, we will not be able to add a Challenge Women 17+ to the 2005 UCI BMX World Championships in Paris, since it is way too late since the registration was closed June 15, 2005. Major changes such as this must be announced at least 1 year ahead….

We have acknowledged the growing interest of women that doesn’t want to ride in the Elite classes but still compete on a high level (at the World Championships). Since the UCI will introduce selection criteria’s (riders must qualify) for the elite classes (Junior Women, Elite Women etc) in 2006, the possibility to introduce a Women 17+ challenge class in 2006 is even greater.

This will be discussed and decided upon during the next UCI BMX Commission meeting in July 2005, and communicated afterwards.

They are looking for more girls to help them with getting a 17+ or 19+ female challenge class introduced at future World Titles.  If you are interested in trying to get this class established or would like to help them out please e-mail them your details.  You can contact them through the BMX Chixx website or we can pass your details on to them.

BMX South Qld Zone boasts more members than the 1200 expected entrants, and from all feedback at this stage are expecting almost full participation. 27/1/05 - Girls Gold Cup

The 11th annual Girls Gold Cup event is being held at the Happy Valley BMX Club on Saturday 19th February, in conjunction with their Southern Stampede event.  This is an annual event established by the former female riders involved in the Female Riders Association of South Australia.  The event is open to all female riders 12 years and over.  Entry fee is $2 and you must ride a 20” bike in the event and also enter either age, money or voucher class.

Last year saw the establishment of a Junior Girls Gold Cup for the younger female riders and this event will be held again this year at The Cove BMX Club on Sunday 20th February at their Southern Stampede race meeting.  This event is open to riders 11 years and under with the same conditions as the Senior Girls Gold Cup.

The winners of the Gold Cups are unable to compete in the event for the next two years as a way of encouraging all females to enter the event.  Over the years there has been some very exciting racing in the class and more often than not the winner has been decided on a count back or they have narrowly won the final. It is also a good chance for the younger girls to race against the older girls.

Last year Sally Thomas took out the Senior Gold Cup and Talia Smith took out the Junior Gold Cup (both pictured below).  Previous winners of the Gold Cup in include Emma Franklin, Renee Junga and Kerrie-Lee Lucas.  All previous winners can be viewed on the Gold Cup page on the SA BMX Chicks website.

The Gold Cup events are proudly sponsored by Boss Racing Differentials.  If you would like more information please contact sabmxchicks@yahoo.com.au.

27/1/05 - Track Attack News
The 2005 Track Attack series was held last week in Melbourne.  There were a massive amount of 14+ female money riders, with a couple of meetings having 22 entrants.  This is quite possibly the largest ever female money class field in Australia.

Several top elite riders competed in the series including Melissa Mankowski, Tanya Bailey, Nicole Callisto, Krystal Cranfield, Kylie Patroni, Emma Franklin and Nikki Harper.  The series also saw the return to racing of former world champion Rachael Sheridan (nee Marshall).

The meeting wins were shared around with Melissa Mankowski winning two of the race meetings before returning home to Queensland mid week.  Tanya Bailey won three of the meetings with Nicole Callisto winning one of the meetings.  While Krystal Cranfield took out the overall series.

Caroline Buchanan, one of the youngest competitors in the field had a great week with some good results.  While Caroline Sabotka, the oldest competitor in the field kept the younger riders honest by making the majority of finals.

24/01/05 - New Website - BMX Chixx.com

From February the 1st at 20.00  hours there will be a new  international BMX website: www.bmx-chixx.com.

What makes this website special is the fact that the site is “for women only” and from a women’s perspective! It’ll contain interviews with more and less famous women in the BMX scene. There’ll be items like: statistics, powder—puffs (old school stuff), “get fit, get fast”, “hot or not”, chixx profiles, gozzip, mini chixx, challenge and cruiser women, chattbox etc etc. With this site we want to promote BMX for women by women. We want to make sure we know what goes on in the world of female-bmxers, have fun, try to take a stand so that we have a say in the female-bmx-future, put young talented chixx in the spotlight and contribute to the stimulation of new or ‘renewed’ female bmx-ers.

On Tuesday February the 1st at 20.00 hours the site will be launched by a “launch-party” in the chat-room. With this e-mail I would like to invite all BMX-women to enter the launch-party.

So if you want to stay up to date, get in touch with other bmxers around you,  contribute to your sport or just don’t want to miss out on the fun, don’t forget to go to the site www.bmx-chixx.com at February 1st at 20.00 hours and join us in the chat-room!!!!!!!!!!!!

We hope to see you in our chat-room and please forward this e-mail to all “BMX chixx” you know!!
