An approximately 25m red granite (transported from Aswan) column with a circumference of 9m, was constructed in honor of the Emperor Diocletain. It was once a magnificent structure  though now in ruins.  The Pillar is the tallest ancient monument in Alexandria.

All books, manuscripts, scrolls etc are image-processed and accessible on screen.... even the pages can be turned with fingers....
This is one of the older and congested areas of the city......
Built on a low plateau east of Alexandria and overlooking a beautiful beach this was the summer residence of the former royal family.
Back to Cairo.... Dinner at the Hotel... Japanese restaurant......
