Sigma Alpha Chi was founded on September 29, 1993 because
there was no sorority on the St. John's University campus of Staten Island
which suited certain needs. Eight young women came together to fill that
space, and became the first eight sisters of Sigma Alpha Chi.

Our symbol is a white dove, which is the Christian symbol for peace and
unity.
Our colors are black, white and red.
Black is for Unity.
White is for Dignity.
Red is for Love.

Poem
We are Sisters not by heredity,
We are a group of women with a common identity.
We come together to do our part,
To teach unity, dignity and love, and
educate from the heart.
Combined thoughts we share guide us through our highs and lows,
And our knowledge of cultures will surely grow.
We will unite, love, and educate 'will we die,
We are the sisters of Sigma Alpha Chi

Creed
We, the sisters of Sigma Alpha Chi,
are bound together through our beliefs
to be loyal, united, and committed.
We are individuals with unique
personalities that are called upon,
not as a special privilege,
but as a special responsibility,
to educate from the heart
