Charity Event
Information
Dear Sigmas,

            I have exciting news! On your calendars, you may have noticed, our charity event for the semester is listed as “TBA.” Well take out your calendars and big red pens because we finally have a date. This year, our Sigma Tau Delta chapter will be helping the Wilmington Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) with their "Good Fortune Gala." It will be held on Saturday, March 15th at the Cape Fear Country Club.  According to the MDA, “the gala is an Asian themed event,” and they could use our help before, during and after. Set up would most likely be from 10am until 5pm. Those working during the event would be needed from 4pm-11pm. Because this is the MDA’s most formal event of the year, volunteers working at the gala will need to dress up. Clean up will begin at 11pm and last until we’re finished. While it would be best for volunteers who want to help out during the event to stay for the entire time (4-11), people who want to help with setting up or cleaning up could volunteer for shorter lengths of time than those listed.
            This is a great cause support because the MDA makes an important difference in our community and the world. The MDA is the largest sponsor of scientific research working to find a cure for neuromuscular diseases. Each local office specifically helps families in the area living with these diseases by providing, for example, clinics, support groups, medical equipment, and contact information for programs to help the disabled. For anyone who is interested in an English internship, the Wilmington MDA also takes UNCW English students as writing interns. For more information about internships contact Jane MacLennan at 962-7702 or Shirley Mathews at 962-3525.
If you only attend the minimum 3 Sigma events this semester, I’d make this one of them. We’re sure to make a difference, and have a great time doing it. Please respond to this email as soon as possible to let us know if you would like to participate and at what time you would prefer to volunteer. Thank you.

Yours truly,
President Shawna M. Lesseur-Blas
Dear Sigmas,

            As requested, here is some more specific information about what the MDA will be asking of us as Gala volunteers:

Group #1: SET UP
Volunteers Needed: 5
Aprox. Time: 10a.m. - 3p.m.
Duties:

*       Decorate tables in main room
*       Set out silent auction items

Group #2 EVENT / CLEAN UP
Volunteers Needed: 5
Aprox. Time: 3:30p.m. - Midnight
Duties:

*       Monitoring silent auction tables
*       Live auction runners
*       Assisting with check out

Notes:

Depending on individuals' comfort levels, MDA will assign event volunteers their specific jobs a week or so before the event.  They will instruct us how to perform them at the orientation from 3:30pm-4:30pm.  During the orientation, food will also be served because, as volunteers, we won't be able to eat during the gala.

Event volunteers are asked to stay at least until the event ends - approximately 11p.m. If anyone can stay to help clean up - pack up silent auction items, remove decorations, etc. Everything should be done by 12a.m.

I hope this helps. When you respond, please indicate which group(s) you would like to be a part of. Thanks again Sigmas!
