I did my left knee in many years ago, and always hated jogging, so it was a big surprise to me to become an advocate of running.

Running is a great way to:

Get Fit Fast

Running has the advantage over most exercises in that you don't have to go to any particular place, use any particular equipment, or wear any special clothes, running shoes being a pointed exception.

All you need are a good pair of running shoes (AU$100 to AU$150), a strong desire to get fit, loose fat fast, achieve certain distances, or finish a particular race, and a commitment to see it to the end.

Start with the 10 step running guide. This takes 10 weeks if you run for 3 times a week, which is the maximum desirable. When pushing fitness, it is advisable to take at least 1 day off to recover, and longer if aches and pains persist. Note that aches and pains are unavoidable, as muscles must be over used and rupture, before they will rebuild themselves in a stronger/more durable configuration.

After you can run for 30 minutes, starting adding 5 minutes to the duration, holding for 3 runs in a row, continuing until a target time is met.

Note that serious training is to a time, not a distance.

Once you reach your target time (I stopped at 60 minutes, which is 10km for me) start concentrating on going faster, covering more distance in the same time.

You only need to reach 7 minutes per km to start loosing fat in an unstoppable way (you burn more energy than you can eat), and you get faster simply by being fitter, and carrying less fat around.
