"Mindfulness for Everyday"

Would you like to be free from depression? Free from anxiety? Free from suffering? Have better relationships?

Mindfulness practices are a centuries old, proven path to obtaining greater calmness, peace, contentment, creativity, acceptance, and compassion for yourself and others.

  ~
The Benefits of Mindfulness
Dramatic new research out of several major research institutions is providing evidence and brain imaging documenting the benefits of intentionally focused attention and the mechanisms by which that state is beneficial. Mindfulness is a skill most easily developed through a regular meditation practice. Mindfulness activates the middle prefrontal areas of the brain (behind the forehead) strengthening existing connections and creating new connections throughout the brain. Meditation literally changes the structure of your brain and can change how your brain functions. See the
Mindfulness page for more information.

~
Mindfulness skills help you create a bigger container for your life. If you shake up a 12 oz bottle of pop and then open the lid, it explodes all over and makes a mess. If you put that 12 oz of pop into a 2 liter bottle and shake it up it's a different story. Then, when you open it the pop fuzzes and foams but doesn't explode or make a mess. Mindfulness does not solve all your problems but it does help you experience the difference between you, your thoughts, feelings, emotions, stories, and events. The result is more flexibility when dealing with day to day life and relationships and greater pleasure because of greater sensitivity to the deatils of your moment to moment experience. But, don't take my word for it ~ try it for yourself!

~ What will be covered
Six group meetings covering information about how mindfulness works, mindfulness instruction, and experience doing meditation. Applications include formal sitting meditation, walking meditation, working with difficult emotions, working with pain, working with an unsettled mind, concentration practices, the development of compassion for self and others, and transferring the skills to everyday life. There will be an email forum for support and asking questions helping you solidify your daily practice and to address the inevitable obstacles so they don’t derail you.
