Sligo European Radio made its very first broadcast on Sunday October 4th 1987, with a half-hour long programme being relayed by Jolly Roger Radio in Waterford, Ireland.
In the twenty years since, Sligo European Radio has been relayed also by Radio Blandenque in Chile, South America and also by Weekend Music Radio from Scotland.
Sligo European Radio also broadcast a number of special programmes which were recorded in Benalmadena, on Spain's Costa Del Sol, together with special broadcasts to mark the occasion of the anniversary's of the passing of the marine offences act.
In 2004, Sligo European Radio purchased its own transmitter. It was a 10 watt short-wave rig which was built by Dave Martin of the short-wave pirate station WNKR and which operated on the 33 metre short-wave band.
