The Benefits of Trickle Up Economics

If Everyone Has...The Local Benefits Would Be...The National Benefits Would Be...
Food
  • Lowers need for food kitchens, etc. Resources could be used elsewhere.
  • Food given can be healthy, thus helping with medical costs (prevention).
  • Local farmers can be utilized, thus helping the local economy.
  • We can stop paying farmers not to produce food.
  • Virtually no farms would go bankrupt.
  • Goodbye Farm Aid.

  • Resources previously used for homeless go somewhere else.
  • No homeless = less burden on police and justice system.
  • Previously homeless families can focus on other things (like getting a job).
  • New housing will not have lead paint.
  • Added construction helps the economy.
  • Would help with population decline in certain parts of the country.
Jobs
(Meaning jobs that pay a living wage, job training and apprenticeships and jobs for the handicapped and many emotionally ill)
  • More people paying taxes.
  • More people buying; stimulating the economy.
  • HUGE reduction of people on welfare thus taxing the system less.
  • Jobs can be in areas that improve blight and help those who need it.
  • More money collected in federal taxes.
  • Jobs can be in Federal works.
Medical Care
(yes, "nationalized" health care)
  • More people would be able to work.
  • Emphasis to be on prevention.
  • Employ Doctors & Nurses.

  • Less time paid for sick leave.

Overall "Trickle Up" Effects

  1. Having basic needs met can help members of society worry about higher needs (pretty important in an allegedly evolving society).
  2. Gives people more sense of hope:
less poverty, less crime, less violence, less drug demand = less strain on police.
more hope = more pride in neigborhoods and self-monitoring behavior.
  3. The government can use private businesses to do a lot of this, stimulating the economy. (But profit cannot be the number one priority for basic needs)
  4. Profit-making can be the priority of business for non-essential goods and services but there needs to be a percent that is for the public good.
  5. Kids would come to school ready to learn
More kids better educated = better workforce, less teen pregnancy, less reliance on legal system.
  6. Basics being taken care of supports the concept of family. Adults will need to work less.
