Pictures- This time I have some really great pictures. I spent a week firing the Anagama with Chris and company in early May. This was a huge committment, 3 days on the wood-pile, 3 days of stoking, not to mention loading and unloading...and that THREE HOUR DRIVE that has become like a commute to me. The work that came from this firing was awesome. I have one pot in particular that I can not wait to share with the world. It was a stretch for me to create because of its size, 18 inches high and 18 inches in diameter. I also seemed to accomplish a few other major works as well. I submitted for publishing a basket made from rusted warehouse nails. They came from the Fairhaven Mills warehouse which burned to the ground last year. It was a hundred year old building. My studio also managed to be cleaned too in this process. I think this was because I was so eager to work in it.
When I finished my firing shift at Chris's I had to run to meet Brooke and Jessica at Museum Village to load that kiln. How I managed to get work in two kilns at once, and fire them back to back , I am still trying to figure out. I know I spent a bunch of days in a hypoxic, sleepless state. We unloaded back to back too. This kiln was full of grande surprises as well as some that were not so great. I spent hours helping Brooke to clean the low-fire clay someone had put into the kiln off the shelves. All I can say is that Mexican food never tasted so great!!!
I am spending some time at the Laloba Ranch in Steamboat this summer firing work in the salt kiln and trying to perfect a porcelain body that I have been working on for a few weeks. We'll see how things work out. I have a few goals- the PERFECT Dinner Plate, working large, and trying to achieve Purple flashing...
