Race Report: The event went off with a few minor hitches such as a timing glitch in the 25K and a racer that was not properly registered for the event who then medaled, but all in all things went well. The USS Championship races were graced by the work of Carla (aka the black widow) who pulled the pack of leaders for more than her fair share (SORRY GUYS BUT SHE DESERVES THE CREDIT) her account can be found on the Dimon Sports webpage. Peter Doucet also has a play by play account of the event on his site. As for my thoughts? well, I managed to skate both events, despite being the meet director and having a 102 fever for the 50k. It was a pleasure to see a few of my club members giving marathoning a try for the first time too. Justin Windman (my son) and Leila Sterman (a freshman at Skidmore- who is currently skating with SWC) both finished and enjoyed the 25K event. I skated both events unaided by a pack, which seems to be my MO lately. I am not sure why this happens, but I seem to want to be out there not drafting- somehow there seems to be a greater sense of accomplishment when I do that, though it is really painful and somewhat slow. My races seem to have my heart in it, but being fairly new to the sport my body does not yet want to follow- maybe next year? Thanks to all those who helped me pull off this event. Your support was over the top! Rod and Kenny managed to save the day with timing and it was nice to see my husband finally learn a bit of the strategy behind the sport and start giving the play by plays to me on the drive home.
