Adam K. Bert Mini-Cover

Here we have an uncacheted cover, however, I thought it's small size and the story behind the person it's addressed to, made it unusual enough to include in this online exhibit.  It measures only 3 1/8 x 5 1/2 inches, much smaller than a normal first day cover.  It is addressed to Mr. Adam K. Bert, who I've discovered used to be the chairman of the American First Day Cover Society's expertizing committee.  In fact it was Mr. Bert who, in 1979, notified the Secret Service about the Jerry P. Mather first day cover forgeries, one of which is displayed earlier in this exhibit.  Mather was indicted on seven counts of mail fraud and five counts of selling or possessing (with the intent to sell) counterfeit postmarks.  The whole sordid story can be read by clicking here.
