Italy

In May we took a wonderful 9 day trip to Italy. After exploring many options, we decided on taking a bus tour from England. Obviously we had reservations taking a 2 year old and 8 month old on a 3200 mile bus trip (total miles we traveled), but it turns out both kids traveled great and Dale actually looked forward to getting on the "purple bus" each morning. Our first day of sight seeing took us to Venice.

Venice

Venice is a series of “islands” connected by cannels, rivers, and lagoons. In total, Venice is made up of 120 islands. The buildings are not built on land, but rather wooden stilts. The entire city is slowly sinking into the water.

St. Marks Square contains Basilica di San Marco which contains the remains of St. Mark. The beautiful building was built in 1094, but has been added to through the years.

The Bridge of Sighs was built as a passageway between the Palazzo Ducale and the prison in 1600. It reputedly took its name from the sighs of prisoners being led to trial.
