All Japan Pro Wrestling has appealed to fans through their famous hard and tough competitions featuring Mitsuharu Misawa, Toshiaki Kawada, Akira Taue, Kenta Kobashi, and Jun Akiyama. They have had the actual grim battle rising far above the desk (internet) mere theory by so-called wrestling's internal terms, such as "booking," "angle," "storyline," etc. They usually have NO angles; therefore, there is no meaning to any of the matches on local spot shows; correctly speaking, there is meaning of the match ... match quality itself. We see All Japan style wrestling as it actually is from their matches. All Japan Pro has been run by Misawa, Mitsuo Momota (a son of Rikidozan), and others on the board of directors after the death of Giant Baba on January 31, 1999. They strain every nerve to run the company without the big boss, who had controlled everything for 26 years since 1972. However, it is said that there is great antagonism between Mrs. Motoko Baba and Misawa. She is a money woman, but she is still rather mean over everything, which puts big pressures on both wrestlers and office workers. Then, it has been noised abroad that All Japan Pro would split up in the near future. As usual, one site copies from another, and another site copies from it, and they all spread mere rumors from each other.

"Untouchable" Mitsuharu Misawa (6'1'', 238 lbs.) was born in Yubari City, Hokkaido on Monday, June 18, 1962. Misawa grew up in Koshigaya City, Saitama (less than an hour from Tokyo), and longed to become a professional wrestler. He did amateur wrestling (Free Style / 85 kg Class) at Ashikaga-kodai High School (A Comprehensive School for Boys affiliated with Ashikaga Institute of Technology) in Ashikaga City in Tochigi. He joined Giant Baba's All Japan Pro in March 1981 and debuted as a pro wrestler, losing to Shiro Koshinaka in an open-air spot show in front of the Horse Race Course in Urawa City, Saitama on August 21, 1981. He was really a promising young wrestler in those days, and he, as "Kamikaze Misawa," and Shiro Koshinaka, as "Samurai Shiro," were sent to EMLL (Empresa Mexicana de Lucha Libre) in Mexico for three months from March 1984. Misawa, as Tiger Mask, debuted at Den-en Coliseum in Tokyo on August 26, 1984. Giant Baba & Tiger Mask appeared in the Jim Crockett Sr. Memorial Cup Tag Team Tournament at the Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana on April 19, 1986. He challenged for Curt Hennig's AWA World Heavyweight title at Korakuen Hall on January 2, 1988, and Ricky Steamboat's NWA World Heavyweight title at Nippon Budokan on March 8, 1989, and faced Bret Hart in a singles match at Tokyo Dome on April 13, 1990. During a tag match at Tokyo Gym on May 14, 1990, Tiger Mask told his partner, Toshiaki Kawada, to unmask him. He started as Mitsuharu Misawa without the mask two days later. He beat Jumbo Tsuruta in a non-title singles match for the first time at Nippon Budokan on June 8, 1990, and beat Stan Hansen to win the Triple Crown Heavyweight title for the first time at Nippon Budokan on August 22, 1992. He beat Kawada to win the Champion Carnival Round Robin Tournament for the first time at Nippon Budokan on April 15, 1995. He has been rated as one of the best heavyweight wrestlers in the world. He became the new president of All Japan Pro on May 7, 1999.

"Dangerous K" Toshiaki Kawada (5'10'', 230 lbs.) was born in Fujioka Town, Tochigi on Sunday, December 8, 1963. Kawada played baseball and was an amateur sumo when he was a junior high school student, and he did amateur wrestling (Free Style / 75 kg Class) at Ashikaga-kodai High School in Ashikaga City in Tochigi. Misawa was his senior by one year. He joined Baba's All Japan Pro in March 1982 and debuted as a pro wrestler, losing to Hiromichi (Kodo) Fuyuki in an open-air spot show in front of the Fire Department in Ohara Town, Chiba on October 4, 1982. It is not very well known that Kawada had gained experience as a pro wrestler in Fred Behrend's Texas All-Star Wrestling (San Antonio, Texas), Stu Hart's Stampede Wrestling (Calgary, Alberta, Canada), and Frank Valois' International Wrestling (Montreal, Quebec, Canada) for a year from November 1985. He and Fuyuki, as "Japanese Force," had a feud with "American Force" (Paul Diamond & Shawn Michaels) for the USA Tag Team title in San Antonio, Texas. He was billed as "Kio Kawata" from Seoul, South Korea in Stampede Wrestling for a very short time in 1986. He came back to Japan at the end of 1986 and joined Gen-ichiro Tenryu's "Revolution" Army, and formed a tag team named "Footloose" in 1987. Though Tenryu and eight wrestlers (Kabuki, Yatsu, Takano, Nakano, Fuyuki, Kitahara, Orihara, & Yamanaka) left All Japan and signed with SWS (Super World Sports) run by Megane Super, one of the biggest glasses companies in Japan, Misawa and Kawada stayed with Baba and All Japan and established themselves as top stars in the 1990's. Kawada beat Steve Williams to win the Champion Carnival Round Robin Tournament for the first time on April 16, 1994, and beat Williams again to win the Triple Crown Heavyweight title for the first time at Nippon Budokan on October 22, 1994. He became the new vice-president of All Japan Pro on May 7, 1999.

"Dynamic T" Akira Taue (6'5", 266 lbs.) was born in Chichibu City, Saitama on Monday, May 8, 1961. Taue did high jump, shotputting, baseball, and judo when he was a junior high school student, and did amateur sumo in Chichibu A & T High School. He was scouted for professional sumo in 1980, and he was named "Tama-kirin." Then, he joined Baba's All Japan Pro on August 17, 1987, and debuted as a pro wrestler teaming with Baba, beating Buddy Landell & Paul Harris at Korakuen Hall on January 2, 1988. He is a typical "Genius slow to develop" type wrestler. He improved very well when he was teaming with Jumbo Tsuruta in 1990. He beat Misawa to win the Champion Carnival Round Robin Tournament for the first time on April 2, 1996, and he beat Misawa again to win the Triple Crown Heavyweight title for the first time at Sapporo Nakajima Sports Center in Hokkaido on May 24, 1996.

"Orange Crush" Kenta Kobashi (6'2, 265 lbs.) was born in Fukuchiyama City, Kyoto on Monday, March 27, 1967. Kobashi trained his body with Judo and Rugby football in Fukuchiyama High School. After graduation, he became a common salaried man; however, he had kept building his body to be a pro wrestler. He applied to become Baba's disciple and was hired by All Japan Pro as a nameless young dojo boy on June 20, 1987. He was not hired with a flourish of trumpets because he didn't have any super background. He was coached by Baba, Dory Funk Jr., Masanobu Fuchi, Kazuharu Sonoda (a.k.a. Magic Dragon, who was killed in an airplane crash in South Africa on November 28, 1987), and The Road Warriors. He debuted as a pro wrestler against Motoshi Okuma at a local small facility in Rikuto Town Gym in Shiga on February 26, 1988. He beat Taue to win the Triple Crown Heavyweight title for the first time at Nippon Budokan on July 24, 1996. Kobashi has showed that even a nameless young boy without a bright sport career could be crowned with success if they train very hard every day. He treats fans very nicely.

"Blue Thunder" Jun Akiyama (6', 231 lbs.) was born in Izumi City, Osaka on Thursday, October 9, 1969. He did swimming when he was a junior high school student and did amateur wrestling (Free style 81 kg class) and judo in Takaishi High School in Osaka. He went to Senshu University in Tokyo and joined the amateur wrestling team that produced Riki Choshu, Hiroshi Hase, and Manabu Nakanishi (Kurosawa in WCW). He joined Baba's All Japan Pro on February 3, 1992. When Jumbo Tsuruta faded because of his inflammation of the liver, Akiyama was selected as a new main eventer.
