Spike's Story


              James Wesley Marsters was born on August 20th in Greenville, California, and he grew up in Modesto. His father used to be a minister, and his mother almost became a nun. James has one brother and one sister.
             Marsters graduated from Davis High School and attended Julliard, the Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts, and the American Conservatory Theatre. After 10 years of stage work and performing in plays in NYC, Chicago, and Seattle, James moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in film and television acting.
             James landed guest spots on shows like "Northern Exposure" and "Moloney",  but his big breakthrough came in 1997 when he won the part of the blonde British vamp, Spike, on the WB’s “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” Although he was only hired for a few episodes, James won the hearts of “Buffy” fans and is now a regular on the show and has a long-term contract.
            Marsters also guest-starred on a number of other tv shows like "Millennium", "Strange Frequency" and Gene Roddenberry's "Andromeda" He’s also worked on a few movies. Marsters had a small role in the 1999 remake of "The House On Haunted Hill" and a major role in an independent movie called "Winding Roads".
           His other talents include singing and playing guitar, which he sometimes does at fan conventions, or at 14 Below, a club in Santa Monica.
