ABOUT ME: My real name is Wendy. I am married to
a very supportive husband, Mike (NightOwl) for 20 years, his webpage is
here- MShepherd.com/blog.
When I started this website, our 3 boys were 6, 4 and 8 months. My
boys are now 14, 12, and 8. We live in Maryland. I have been homeschooling
since the very beginning. I started this page because I have been having a hard time finding much to do with Maryland homeschooling although I have found so many great links for homeschooling in general. I thought that some of you may benefit from my findings. I love God, teaching my kids, working on my computer, crafts, reading, puzzles, and a good hot cup of tea. *smile I have a personal site at Wendy Shepherd .com I spend a lot of time working on my other websites listed here.
WHAT WE HAD DONE BEFORE THE YEAR 2000: I have been homeschooling my boys since birth. I have read many books on homeschooling, although you can not read enough! Vast resources to wade through. Sometimes overwhelming, but support from other homeschoolers is wonderful to help you through those feelings. My husband and family are very supportive and encourage our decision to homeschool. We are using and have used the "What Your _ Grader Needs To Know" as well as some other resources, Rod & Staff, Charlotte Mason, Ruth Beechick, FIAR, Abeka, Pathway Readers, "The Learnables" for Spanish, and the internet and the library. I am researching much more such as KONOS and some others. Sign Language, Kid's Discover Magazines, and so much more! My 6 year old is reading on 2nd grade level! We started with the "How to Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons" and after that went into the Pathway Readers. He is wonderful at math and art also. My 4 year old is on the "How to Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons" . He is already blending the sounds into words. We are on Lesson #38 and he loves it. He even wants to read more. He amazes me. His writing skills need more practice. He has alot of interest in music and art. My 8 month old is walking and saying a few words. Needless to say it is real busy around here. Teaching him songs and abc's. Play, play, play! |
