PROJECT: MULE
Project Mule: First to give you some background about this project, I like so many others wanted to build my very own HMMWV from scratch, I was especially inspired by James Deguzman's custom projects, which are awesome. I first contacted James a few times, and he was very kind, and provided me with a set of his own drawings that he did, and gave me an idea of the materials that would be needed. I thought to myself, I can do this....Well, I have to say it has been an experience, but one worth trying... There were several things that I needed that would have to be ordered, and lets face it, I was very anxious to take on my new project. (insert light bulb here) I remembered getting a three sets of axels from a guy for another project that was just laying in a box in the closet, and then the light bulb got even brighter, a tandem axel Hummer...... I didnt have all the measurements that I needed, so I figured for my first one, I would just take measurements form a 21C Hummer and custom it to my twisted idea.... Thus Project MULE is born...... **NOTE** If anyone has any ideas of how I could have done this easier, or better, feel free to email me and tell me, this is all a learning process, and I am open to all ideas, critics, and maybe complements... |

Materials Used: 2 sheets of 20"X30" illustration board, resin, automotive spot putty (1 tube), lots of hot glue, automotive spray primer, | Time spent on project: really hard to say, an hour here, and an hour there.... |
This is the beginning of my project, I figured that I should start from the ground up.... |
Driver Side view. Sorry about the pictures, I was using a disposable, so the flash made the image very white.... |
Passenger Side View. You can see the outline a little better on this one... |
Front View. Ok, here is where I kind of cheated, I decided to give it a different front end than a traditional HMMWV. I figured, its my project, what the....well, you know... |
Top View... Sorry, I should have waited and got my digital camera back from my sister, but I wanted to take pics of this in progress.... |
Here's a good picture of it sitting on the "Project Table" as the wife calls it. This gives you a good idea of what it will look like when completed and the rear shot of it. The two pictures below are just to show size comparison with my other Hummers, it is a little larger. |

This shot shows more of the detail and shape, plus I added a snorkel, thought it would be a good touch. That is automotive spot putty that I used, instead of bondo. It works pretty good, dries fast with not much mess. |

Close up view, with the frame sitting on the chassis, I made the snorkel out of a SOTW weapon and a drink bottle cap. |
This was to give an idea of the size.. |

This concludes my preview of Project
Mule. Thank you for watching, please buckle up and drive
safely....
A few ideas that have come to mind with this are to add a hard top, soft top, anti aircraft missile system, or just add a TOW or a twin mount .50 on it...Feel free to make suggestions. Hey, if any of you have some extra wheels laying around that you dont need.... I will gladly take them off your hands. Sorry... wouldnt this look sweeeeet with a custom Jim Catero paint job.....hmmmmmmm..... |
