Brought into this world
A bundle of joy
For a mother and a dad
A bouncing baby boy.
Strange sounds at home
Are heard all the time
Moms got a black eye
But she says that she's fine
As the boy gets older
He doesn't understand
What's wrong with daddy
That giant of a man
His mother seems to cry
And shiver with fear
When daddy gets up
And says "going for a beer"
Words he has learned
Three best he does know
As daddy walks out

He never looks back
He walks out the gate
And now he is gone
And he'll be back late
When he returns
His anger does show
As he raises his hand

Mother takes the beating
His rage and his ire
Keeping her little boy
Out of the fire
The little boy grows
In body mind and soul
Each night daddy returns

The boy now a teen
Stands ‘tween mom and dad
She still gets hit some
But not near as bad
Sometimes his eye is black
Sometimes a bloody nose
But always the words

Now a young man
And daddy returns
He stands ‘tween them now
And his anger it burns
Father does strike
The young man strikes back
His mother cries out
At the terrible attack
The ambulance arrives
On the men’s faces it shows
As they load the old man

In front of the judge
He says it is so
Self defense it was
The boy is let go
They stand by the grave
His mothers tears do flow
He looks at the box
Please daddy no
So when at your family you are mad
And your hand you do raise
Look at your loved ones
into their faces
Hear what they say
What to do you will know
When through the tears you hear
