This male red-lipped Parrotfish (Scarus sordidus) looks as if he is about to swallow the Goldring Sturgeon, but Parrot fish are notorious for churning coral into sand. They grow to about 36 cm. and are among the most photogenic fish at Hanauma Bay. |

Male juvenile parrotfish are very difficult to classify because their blue/green hues are changeable; perhaps computer technology will enable the parrotfish family classifications to be reduced from hundreds to a number which enables accurate classifiction! |
