First off, you need a design for you potato gun. You could make you own design, but, be certain it contains the following items:
1. Two inch diameter High Schedule PVC
2. Four inch diameter High Schedule PVC
3. 4x2 inch reductor unit High Schedule PVC *
4. Four inch diameter Threaded end cap High Schedule
5. Threaded plug for said end cap High Schedule
6. PVC Cement, dont be cheap!
7. Lantern lighter, the kind you twist (or a peizo)

   * If you cannot find that, get a 4x3 reductor High Schedule a 3x2 reductor High Schedule and a short length of 3 inch diameter High Schedule PVC

The pipe lengths should be at least 3 feet for the 2" diameter and at least 1.5 feet for the 4" diameter.
Step One.
Take the 2" diameter pipe, this will be your barrel, and sharpen one end of it so that the cutting edge is on the inside.
I recomend doing this by rubbing the end on cement, do a good job too.

Step Two.

Clean all the pieces of pvc with water and a rag, make sure NO dirt remains, next clean areas where the pipes will be glued with rubbing alcohal or lighter fluid, let it air for about 20 minutes.

Step Three

Now drill a hole of appropriate diameter in the middle of the side of the 4" diameter pipe, you can find the correct size by comparing drill bits to the lantern lighter. Do not install the lighter until all glue has dried.  You could blow yourself up.

Step Four

Apply PVC Cement to the outside of 2" diameter pipe and the inside of reductor piece, join together.  Basically, just follow the instructions on the cement bottle for gluing.  Join all the others together until you have a completed gun. Let dry for a minimum of 24 hours, leave plug off of end cap.

Step Five

Now you will want to install the lighter, you will have to figure out how, it all depends on what type you buy.

Step Six

Apply vasoline to the end cap threads, this will keep the cap from sticking when you want to open it.
These are the 2x3 and 3x4 reduction pieces.
