This is what actually happened that day after the doctor came out of the emergency room to talk to Phong and Lan-Yee. I hope this explanation helps everybody understand what happened to Suet and why she's still alive.

The doctor comes out moments after and says, "I'm sorry."
Lan-Yee immediately cries and Phong holds on to her tightly. He cannot believe it. His eyes are filled with anger, pain, and great sadness as he holds onto his daughter.
The doctor looks at them and corrects their misunderstanding. "No! No! she's not dead!"
Phong and Lan-Yee looked at him in joy and confusion. "She's okay?" Phong asked as Lan-Yee supports herself up staring blankly at the doctor.
"Well we've tried our best but..." the doctor says
"Make up you mind! One minute you apologize, one minute you've tried your..." Lan-Yee screams at him holding her fist up.
Phong cuts his daughter off. "So what has happened?" he asks the doctor sternly. The hope in his voice can be felt as he inches closer to the doctor wishing to hear good news.
"Chiang Suet is alive but she had such a shock that she would probably remain in a coma for the rest of her life unless a miracle occurs." the doctor said softy afraid of Lan-Yee's next reaction.
Lan-Yee and Phong look at each other in relief and fear. They were relieved she was alive but feared that she would live the rest of her life comatose.
The doctor saw their expression and said, ?We tried to help her all we could. We even revived her from her lifeless state but we are unable to tell you when she?ll wake up.? He looked at them once more before walking away. ?I?m sorry.? He said walking off.
?Thank you!? Lan-Yee and Phong said synchronized.
The doctor looked back at them surprised that they thank him, ?You?re welcome.? He replied then walked away.
Phong and Lan-Yee went to tell Quay, Hong Dao, Chun-On, Ho-Ying, and Li-Nam the news. Then when Suet was taken to her room there to stay with her.
For the next few months they took turns caring for her. Everyday Phong read stories to her and read the newspaper so she would know what was going on in China. He would talk about how their life would be so great together when she woke up.
Quay would tell her stories about everyone and tell her how cute the baby was encouraging Suet to wake up to see her.
Lan-Yee, Chun-On, Li-Nam, and Ho-Ying came to help her exercise her muscles so that when she awoke she could run around and do things.
Hong Dao made sure to bath Suet and help her keep her hygiene.

It was now January and Lan-Yee needed to leave for England but she refused to leave until Suet woke up. She didn?t feel right leaving her mother before she awoke. Chun-On and Quay tried to convince her but they failed.
Even Phong tried to convince her that was what Suet wanted but she refused to leave and instead ran to the hospital crying as she begged Suet to wake up. Phong, Quay, and Chun-On felt such great sadness as they saw Lan-Yee holding her mother in tears.
?Wake up mommy! Wake up! You?ve been sleeping for such a long time. I have lived all my life as an orphan. I never knew how it felt to have a family. You can?t do this to me! You can?t leave me and not let me have a chance to have a family!? she cried pounding her mother?s chest.
Phong pulled her up. ?It?s okay.? He said embracing his daughter. ?It?s okay. Your mother won?t leave you. When you come back from England she?ll be awake and here to hold you so you can experience a warm and loving family.? He said wiping the tears off her face.
?I?m afraid when I come back mom will wake up from her coma and forget about us. I?m afraid she?ll never wake up if I leave. I?m afraid she?ll wake up and I won?t be here and she?ll thin I?ve left her. I?m afraid?? Lan-Yee cried as she was confused about what she was feeling herself.
Suet suddenly stuttered, ?I could? could never? never forget? my daughter.?
Lan-Yee wiped her tears. Phong quickly bent down to Suet?s bedside. ?Suet! Suet!? he said holding her hands to his face.
Lan-Yee wiped her tears but now tears of joy were streaming down her face. ?Mom.? She said softly.
Suet smiled. Quay ran over to her and smiled as tears of joy and relief also streamed down her face. Chun-On out his arms around Lan-Yee and smiled at her to let her know that everything was going to be okay as he said, ?Congratulations Auntie Suet.?

Phong and Suet were already in their 40?s so they didn?t even think of marriage. They were just happy to be together. Six months after Suet?s recovery Madam Lam was very ill. Her only wish was to see Phong and Suet get married.
So Phong and Suet had a simple but very nice wedding to complete Madam Lam?s final wish. Madam Lam was only able to live with her new daughter in law for 16 months before she passed away but she was content to see her only son and daughter in law so happy and in love.
