So the story of Bad Company goes like this. After a Harvard educated CIA agent is killed during an operation, they recruit his twin brother played by Chris Rock (2001’s Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back). He’s a black street hustler with no idea that his brother even existed. The CIA wants the twin to finish a project his brother was working on. But the he has absolutely no experience, so the agency sends in an experienced agent played by Anthony Hopkins (2001’s Hannibal) to train him on how to act and talk like his dead brother.
Bad Company, contrary to what many critics say, this was not a bad movie. But it wasn’t good either. It was just average run of the mill movie. It was another instantly forgettable buddy movie where you take the well mannered good cop and put him with the reckless crazy cop. Thought this one had a little bit of a twist on that idea. I guess I enjoyed it for what it was, which wasn’t much. It was relatively funny and it had some decent action scenes. One thing I will say though is that it was ten times better than Chris Rocks last movie Down To Earth. A lot of things were wrong with it though. First off I think the movie tried too hard to be funny but didn't pull some of it off, because some of jokes really didn’t hit their mark. Some things just fell flat and didn't work like I think the makers wanted them to. Also I think that Anthony Hopkins was really out of place in his roll. He and Chris Rock worked ok together, but they lacked chemistry that these type of buddy movies usually have and need. So while Bad Company is not a horrible movie, it’s not anything to write home to mom about. Check it out at the video store if there’s nothing else to rent but you could just as easily skip it in the theater and on video. You won’t be missing anything that you haven't seen before. |
