Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle is the exact definition of a summer popcorn movie. It’s fun, full of action, doesn’t require you to think at all while watching it. It’s a movie that is made for one sole purpose, to entertain.
Now I won’t bother getting deep into the plot, because… well there really isn’t much of one. But the gist of it is that two rings have been stolen, that when put together reveal the names of all the people in the witness protection program. Then it is up to the three sexy angels to get the rings back.
All three of the angels have come back for this sequel, and they’ve still got it. Cameron Diaz, Lucy Lui, and Drew Barrymore are great together, and look gorgeous. The Thin Man played by the always great and under-rated Crispin Clover makes his return. While having a small part, it is still memorable. Also returning, as two of the angel’s boyfriends are Luke Wilson & Matt LeBlanc. Not returning is Bill Murray; instead he is replaced by Bernie Mac. Mac does an all right job, but doesn’t measure up to Murray. New to the movie playing the angel gone bad is Demi Moore. She is good in her role, which is relatively small, but she looks even better. Also new are Robert Patrick and Shia LeBeouf. Not to mention tons of cameos.
While Charlie’s Angels:FT is definatley not a great thought provoking film, it is good, dumb fun. And it might not get critical praise and win awards, but it’s not supposed to. Director McG knows exactly what he’s trying to do. He’s trying to make an entertaining action movie, and he succeeds. Some jokes fall flat, but oh well, that is to be expected from this type of movie. Also the CGI looked a bit fake and cheesy at times. The movie itself is dumb, cheesy and corny, but that’s what made me like it. Like I said, I didn’t have to think during this movie, which was a nice change. It may not be as entertaining as the original was, but it kept me entertained for the entire running time, and that’s all that I needed, wanted, and expected. |
