Destination Costa Rica, February 2008

We didn't bring a camera to Costa Rica. Instead, we drew sketches of what we saw, more with the intent of being able to later jog our memories than any artistic aspirations.

The biggest benefit of this was that we got to chuckle condescendingly at all the other tourists running around with their big, black, 3 kilogram mine-has-more-buttons-than-yours digital photo studios.

It also brought the pace of our trip down a notch, in order to draw anything you must sit or stand in one place for at least a half an hour and really look at the thing you're drawing. Laurenz preferred pencils, I as always colored markers. Here's an example of two views from a church built during colonial times (17th century) in the town of Nicoya, Costa Rica:
