SHAHRUKH'S NEW ROLE MODEL IS... |
Shah Rukh Khan admittedly imitates "thespian Dilip Kumar, mega star Amitabh Bachchan and all-rounder Dharmendra." He has no qualms about it. "I have never claimed to be original," he shot back when correspondents harped on his limitations as an actor. His most awaited film, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Devdas, due in June this year, has him copying veteran actor Dilip Kumar, who played the title role in the Bimal Roy-directed version of the film. But the actor has taken it upon himself to "refurbish his image and add another dimension" to his staid lifestyle. Perhaps, he hasn't been getting enough media attention in recent times. He has to have a role model in order to survive. But must he follow the footsteps of his contemporaries? He has been so impressed with Aamir Khan and his principles that he has decided to do what he has been often accused of - imitate him. He has issued notices to all his producers that he would concentrate on only one film at a time, do one home production in two years, pump more resources into the research cell of his company, have an overall perspective of all the departments in a production he stars in. And so the actor who, by his own admission, knows "only five expressions" has cut down on assignments. He walked out of J P Dutta's LoC and Priyadarshan's film based on the Hollywood classic One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest after allotting bulk dates. Mani Rathnam's Hindi remake of Alay Payuthe, starring Rani Mukherjee and Vivek Oberoi, and Boney Kapoor's Shakti with Karisma and Nana Patekar in the lead will have him playing important but small roles. How about Aamir's dedication? Has it rubbed off on you? |
SRK THE KING OF THE UK BOX OFFICE! |
The superstar remains most bankable in the UK! The amazing success of Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham in the UK has reinforced Shah Rukh Khan's position as the most bankable Bollywood star at the British box office! Shah Rukh has always been incredibly popular with the NRI market. His total UK box office earnings to date stand at slightly more than a whopping £5.5million, thanks to blockbusters such as K3G, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Mohabbatein - which are the three highest grossing Bollywood movies ever in the UK. His only real competition in terms of UK box office earnings is, believe it or not, his popular co-star Kajol! The actress might not remain at the number two position for long, considering she hasn't got any more films in production at the moment, but her total box office earnings in the UK to date is slightly over £3.5 million! Meanwhile, at number three is none other than the Big B himself, Amitabh Bachchan, whose UK box office earnings to date is just under £3.4 million! |
SHAKTI..HIS NEXT(SA) WITH BONEY KAPOOR AND KARISMA! |
The hugely talented and popular actress Karisma Kapoor seems to have vanished from the industry recently. Last seen impressing the critics with her performances in 'Fiza' and 'Zubediaa', Karisma's currently busy working on Boney Kapoor's remake of the Hollywood flick 'Not Without My Daughter'. Insiders say the actress is guaranteed to gain some award nominations next year thanks to this film, which also stars Nana Patekar and Shah Rukh Khan (in a special appearance). The original version has a hard hitting plot about a woman who has her daughter snatched away by his evil husband. Its been no secret that during the making of the film, Karisma and Nana Patekar have not exactly seen eye to eye, which has resulted in Karisma storming off the sets. However, fans are thrilled that Karisma and Shah Rukh are coming together on the big screen once again after the blockbuster 'Dil To Pagal Hai'. |
**SHAHRUKH: DECLARED THE SEXIEST ASIAN MAN!!** |
NEW YORK: Hrithik Roshan may be snapping at Shah Rukh Khan's heels but the Khan has upstaged him in a popularity contest held recently. Jade magazine, a webzine based in New York, conducted a poll on the sexiest Asian man. It included the hunky Roshan along with the likes of Hong Kong action superstar Yun-Fat Chow, known to the Western world as Chow Yun-Fat in films such as The Replacement Killers and The Corrupter. But the magazine's editors did not include Khan, the top Bollywood star for nearly a decade. "The poll came about when one of our writers felt there wasn't enough written about Asian stars," said editor-in-chief Ellen Hwang. "We came up with the names of ten stars and put them on our web site." Contenders also included Tony Leung Chiu Wai, another Hong Kong action star who co-starred with Yun-Fat in 1992's Hard Boiled, and Takeshi Kaneshiro, a 28-year-old Chinese actor. Over 2,000 responses came in. Roshan came in third with just 127 votes. The runner-up was Kaneshiro. Editors had also left a write-in slot for readers who wanted to mention names not on the list. Much to the surprise of the magazine's brass, Khan won with 832 write-in votes! "We were surprised because there was overwhelming write-in response," Hwang noted. "We weren't sure how the article that went with the poll was received but some voters may have forwarded the poll to their friends to write-in Shah Rukh." Hwang was aware of Khan's star quality in Bollywood when she watched Mohabattein upon the urging of a friend. But his name was left off since she was not sure of his fan following. "I've enjoyed him in the movies," Hwang noted. "I think he's a worthy winner."Khan's fans also sent in their comments. "Take Hrithik out and put Shah Rukh Khan Khan, he's the most sexiest and coolest guy I had ever met," said one. "I think you forgot someone whom I think is more sexy than any of the guys listed above and that's Shah Rukh Khan,"another claimed. K3G STILL IN UK TOP TEN! |
The superstar has signed Nikhil Advani's Film! New director Nikhil Advani is definitely a name to look out for in Bollywood - he will be directing the next movie for Dharma 'K3G' Productions, whilst Karan Johar takes a well earned rest! Nikhil was assistant director for blockbusters such as Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and Mohabbatein. His film will be a thriller which will naturally star Dharma Production's one and only favourite Shah Rukh Khan in the lead role. Meanwhile, one more hero and two heroines will be signed for the movie, with Rani Mukherjee also rumoured to have been approached. |
The blockbuster crosses the two million mark! Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham continues to storm the UK box office charts, spending its fourth week in the national top ten! The blockbuster has dropped to the number nine spot this week, making £151,156 at cinemas during last weekend. That brings its total up to a whopping £2,080,040 - the first Bollywood movie to ever cross the two million mark in the UK! Although it will probably exit the top ten next week, K3G is still expected to remain in the top 15, meaning its record breaking box office figures will increase even more! |

QUESTION |
.. |
SHAHRUKH PAYS FINE TO DDA |
The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has got Shah Rukh Khan to pay Rs 12627 as fine towards the recovery of costs incurred in demolishing his property in Madangir Shopping Complex. The site was allotted to his late mother Fatima Latif to run a Kerosene depot in 1984. But it was leased for residential purposes. Since the actor was the heir to Fatima Latif, DDA charged the Khan with violating the license deed. The agency demolished the structure in August 2001 for violations and took possession of the site. Although he has paid this fine, sources in the agency claim that his arrears amount to Rs 2.2 million. If he's not able to do that, the agency will be forced to attach any of property owned by Shah Rukh in Delhi or in Mumbai. |
SHAHRUKH & HRITIK IN FARHAN'S NEXT |
Hrithik Roshan and Shah Rukh Khan are likely be seen together in Farhan Akhtar's next venture. Apparently, Aamir was supposed to be cast in the SRK's role. But Aamir was already committed to Mansoor Khan for the ABCL film. It may be recalled that Hrithik was considered by Farhan for his first film, but Roshan turned down the offer as he was not ready for sync-sound system. The new film is likely to be titled Dil. |
SHAHRUKH'S "MANNAT" IS THE BEST! |
So what if the 'Badshah' Khan's 'Asoka' failed to make a mark like Aamir's 'Lagaan' at international festivals? What if Aamir defeated him in the initial rounds for the Oscars? The Khan can still retain his dimpled smile for he has got enough reasons to toast glasses of champagne. For Shah's home 'Mannat' might win the prestigious award of being the best heritage bungalow of the city. A survey recently conducted, voted his house as the best heritage bungalow in the city. Shah for sure will love this. After all, this is appreciation for something close to his heart. His 'mannat' has finally been answered! |
