I bought this car in Oklahoma in 1992. It was pretty much rust free except for the front floor pans. It came with a FMX trans. (mounted wrong), '77 302 motor with '68 289 heads, Edelbrock Torker 289 intake manifold, Holley 4 barrel carb, Accel Super coil, 2.79 open rear gears, dual straight pipes, headers and a tattered interior. Cost $3500. First I added a Grant Challenger steering wheel #415, Sun Tach and Cragar SS wheels. Recovered the front seats in a Charcoal (border) & Black (center) pattern and dyed the rear seats, door panels and knee pad to match. I then replaced the headliner, carpet and painted all interior surfaces semi-gloss black. I drove the car like this until I was shipped off to Germany late in 1993. At that time the tranny was starting to slip as I readied it for storage. I returned home and brought the car back to life for a few months until I realized the tranny needed serious attention. This started the rebuilding/restomoding. Starting with welding in new front floor pans. Then my friend Brent D. and myself made custom subframe connectors out of 2x2 boxed steel. We molded them into and followed the curve of the floor pans. Next I bought a MII front suspension system from Rod & Custom Motorsports. It has 11" disk brakes, tubular A-arms, power steering and can fit the 460 ci Big Block Motor I am planning on installing. I have since had a 9" (28 spline) rear with 3.50 traction lock and a C6 transmission rebuilt. Currently I am making a custom gauge cluster with Autometer Ultra-lite gauges, adding 3 point shoulder belts, (I got that idea from Brian) and searching for mid 90's bucket seats to put in. (I got that idea from Steph Roberts). I also got a rear disk brake kit from ECI Brakes. |
