Starfire Collies is a small hobby kennel located among the beautiful farm lands of Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania which is just south of Hershey {otherwise known as Chocolate Town, USA}.
I have been a member of the Collie Club Of America and the Central Pennsylvania Collie Club since 1990.
Averaging 1 litter per year, I breed for quality, not quantity. My collies excel the the show ring {usually being owner-handled to their championships} as well as in obedience and herding. They are first and foremost house dogs. I feel they really need to belong with "their humans" as well as their canine friends. As well as having beautiful, heart melting faces, health and temperament are very important to me along with correct structure.
Puppies are born in a bedroom and from the time their eyes open, they are very well socialized. I take them for car trips and they meet alot of different people and are exposed to many sights, smells, and sounds. I truly believe that the more people/situations they are exposed to as babies, the more well adjusted adults they become.
Eye checks by a certified veterinary opthamologist and complete physicals are performed at 7 weeks of age. Temperament testing is also done at this time.
My collies run and play in over a acre that's completely fenced in. I also have spacious 12 by 4 foot individual kennel runs that they stay in when unsupervised. When I am home, they are either playing outside or enjoying my company in the house.
I truly LOVE this breed. Collies are extremely loyal and devoted companions to their family. They love to be with you all of the time and are very protective. But, unlike some other breeds, they seem to always know when strangers are threatening or nice. The history of the breed is filled with their heroic tales. In the 25 year history of the Ken-L Ration Dog Hero Of The Year Awards Program, a Collie has earned this distinction 5 times! |
