"The what?" Kenta couldn't keep himself from asking.
"My sword has a name?" Terrin asked.
"You mean you don't know?" The king stared at Terrin.
"No...I don't even know where I *am*!" Terrin said.
"Goodness! The boy has been carrying it around with him all this time without even knowing what it was?" The wizard turned to stare at Terrin as well.
"Couldn't be! He has to at least know what it is!!" A nobleman said.
"That's preposterous! No clue at all?" Another nobleman commented.
"Can someone explain to me where the heck I am and what is going on?!" Terrin shouted as loud as he could - evidently surprising them all into silence.
"A complete foreigner." The wizard said shaking his head.
The king motioned for silence. "Your name is Terrin, correct?" He asked.
"Yes." Terrin answered.
"I am King Ryukat. This is the kingdom of Nashkel and you are in the world, Taslani." He said. "Your sword is the legendary Atlaris."
"How did you know I didn't come from Taslani?" Terrin demanded. "And how did I get the sword in the first place?!"
"There's a prophecy here, Terrin. You wouldn't know it and I won't repeat it for you now, but it speaks of Atlaris and one who will deliver it who comes from another world." King Ryukat said. "Atlaris is an object of evil and it consumes anyone who uses it at the same time giving them extraordinary power." He explained. "That's why Landar was careful not to touch it else he be tempted to use it."
"Um...okay..." Terrin said. The explanation had not made anything clearer - confusing things more even.
"But you don't seem to have been affected by it." The king said. "So you must be the one to destroy it."
"Destroy that?! But it could be worth millions!!" Kenta protested, interrupting.
"It's worth much more than that." King Ryukat answered. "Your life and the lives of many others. Lord Talan wants it, he created it and would do anything to recover it."
"Who?" Terrin asked.
"Talan, Lord of Yasmir. It's a kingdom south of here, also a land of suffering and death. It's controlled by Talan who has been gaining land little by little around the kingdom and he has been trying to attack Nashkel. Thirteen years ago we were able to take Atlaris from him but we could not destroy it so we banished it. Now you have brought it back as the prophecy said so you are the one to destroy it."
"Eheh...that's a bit sudden, isn't it?" Kenta asked. |
