Kenta choked. "A *girl*?! We have to go face that big, powerful sorcerer and they send a GIRL?!"
"Milolrd! don't say such a thing," the guard said. "That there is one of the greatest mercenaries of the region! Why, she's known all the way to Faremount!"
"What were ye expectin, a gallant knight on horseback?" she added with a chuckle.
Kenta, fumed and was silent.
"Hu-Hi, my name's Terrin," Terrin said, trying to take attention away from Kenta, and hoping that she wouldn't leave them to do this mission on their own. 'She sure doesn't look like any girl I ever met' he thought, taking in her combat clothing and the battle staff she had in her hand. 'And where are her shoes...?'
"Sola," she answered shortly, turning her purple eyes to look at the boy. 'There may be hope for this one'.
"Well, looks like there be a long road before us, so we might as well be starting." she said, moving her gaze to the guard, who threw her a large pouch that jingled metallically. It was promptly hidden away in her voluminous sleaves.
"Looks like there be a long road..." Kenta mimicked, under his breath, receiving a sharp glance from Sola.
"Come along," she said walking away down the road, Terrin hurrying to catch up and Kenta coming a bit slower.
So, the trio started off on this dangerous and terribly important journey, without the fanfare or crowds or anything that one would expect would accompany such an important event. ‘And yet,' Terrin mused, ‘I still don't feel so important...' |
