Part 20 - Solinari // Monday, May 3, 2004 // 03:26 p.m.
Ahn was walking through the crowded streets of Doqual with an air of determination about him. People around him seemed to avoid him without intentionally trying to do so. Ahn smirked as one man suddenly looked up, noticed his mage staff and then literally tripped over his own feet to get out of the way.
The elf was headed to the city’s mage ware shop, having need of replenishing his supplies. All the way he mumbled in an arcane language under his breath, further disturbing the public. Suddenly, he was assaulted by a strange sensation, as if he were being watched. But, as he had arrived before the shop, Ahn decided to ignore it. Or forget it. Forget what?
He stepped inside the dark shop and went over to the front desk where the clerk, of an indistinct race, awaited him.
“How may I be of service?” it asked.
In response, Ahn handed over a list of the many strange objects that he required. The clerk then went out back, only to return shortly after with many pouches. Ahn then paid and left the shop.
His business thus concluded, he decided that it must be about time to start the search for Sola. His mumbling soon escaladed to whispering. As he was heading to the gates and was preparing to activate the locator spell on Sola’s bracelet, the strange sensation of being watched returned. This time, though, it was much stronger.
“I’m being followed,” he thought. He discreetly looked around at the crowd but failed to perceive his stalker. “I don’t have time for this,” he grumbled, rolling his eyes. He quickly searched through his repertoire of spells for one to suit this situation. Ahn then promptly cast the perfect one: a image displacement spell. This spell placed Ahn’s image on someone else while he assumed another form. The follower would then follow the wrong prey. But, as he got closer, the image would jump to another person, and then another, and so forth. He laughed at his good fortune. Ahn had been waiting to use this jumping illusion spell for eons.
‘Well, I might as well get going,’ Ahn thought as he began to recite the words that activated the locator spell. But when the location of the group came back to him, Ahn stopped stone still in the middle of the road, causing the people behind him to swerve quickly to the side to avoid him.
“Fools!” he exclaimed, surprising a passing group of thugs. They, unfortunately, seemed to take exception to this and started towards Ahn, smacking their fists. Ahn looked up, flashed a quick grin, and then dispatched the bunch with a quick freezer spell, leaving them stuck in place for the next hour. He then set out of the gate, oblivious of the strange looks he was receiving, and headed towards Lost Forest, mumbling all the way. |
