Part 21 - Windsprite // Wednesday, June 9, 2004 // 11:26 a.m.

Sola knew they had no chance as soon as she realised the sheer numbers of the enemy force. They surounded the small group on every side, and they could hear more of them in the bushes. One or two, she could have handled, maybe four. But not this many.

“Still,” she thought, “I’ve got to be trying.” With that, she let out a mighty yell and charged in to the fray, managing to surprise more than a few. She quickly snapped her staff around, felling any who came within her reach with a deadly jab. An onlooker may have describer her as a whirling death dealer, so fast did she spin her staff. Every so often, she would leap out of the melee to shoot off a few arrows. And when she paused to launch one of her many daggers, it always found its mark.

Sola looked around at her companion, seeing that Kenta seemed to be holding his own, slashing with his knife and kicking, punching, headbutting... anything to strike at the opponent.

When she turned her violet gaze to Terrin, however, she was dismayed, for Terrin lay in the hands of the band’s leader, a knife to his throat. Terrin litteraly shook with terror, for this was his first real fight and he had no idea what to do, how to strike and, most of all, how to get out of this desparate situation.

As soon as the chief spotted Sola looking at him, he shoved Terrin to one of his nearest lackeys and started jumping and down waving his spear in the air, causing his headress to fall in front of his face, which he promptly replaced and pretended that "he meant to do that". He then spouted something in a quick, gibberish-like language. Sola didn’t understand a word of it, but from his gestures, she got the general idea: drop your weapons or the boy dies. He seemed to like the later of the choices, and so was disappointed when she promptly did so. "I be having to choice," she muttered. "Blasted quest'll be gettin us all killed!" The tribesmen were greatly impressed by the large pile of weapons now lying at her feet. She signalled to Kenta (who wore a look of horror as he saw what she had done) to follow suit.

When he opened his mouth to protest, she levelled at him such a withering glare that he complied immediately, though with much scowling and muttering on his part. Things where starting to cool down when the chief ordered the searched.

They took Terrin’s sword away, causing all in the group to wince slightly at the sight of such an important weapon in the hands of such horrible creatures. They found nothing on Sola, of course, for if she didn’t want something found, you can be sure that it won’t be.

But when the came to Kenta, who was looking frantically for some way to escape and was shuffling his feet constantly, they came up with a dagger. But not just any dagger… Sola’s dagger! “I’ll skin ye alive,” she muttered under her breath causing Kenta to wonder which was the worse fate: being captured by the savage tribe, or being left in Sola’s clutches.

That’s when things turned from bad, to worse.
