Stage Work: Technique
Effective entrances and exits require a keen sense of timing. Start and entrance in character at least six feet back in the wings in order to acquire the rhythm of the character?s walk. Come from a definite place and enter for a specific purpose. You should make the entrance with head and eyes up and come well into the acting area. The same technique applies to exits. Keep in character until you have completed the exit at least six feet into the wings and be going to a definite place for a specific purpose.
Learning how to walk up and down stairs silently and gracefully is important, since stairs havee such dramatic possibilities for performers. Reach for each step with the toes and come down on the heeeel afterward. The weight must be kept on the balls of the feet and transferred quickly. If possible, point thee feet straight ahead to avoid an unseemly angle of knees projecting at the sides. Before walking down a long flight of stairs, pause an instant and then descend on a curve, which is more graceful than coming down on a straight line. All movements should be smooth, rhythmical, and perfectly balanced.

M.C. Escher: Relativity
"In the perceptual paradoxes of M.C. Escher, upstairs and downstairs collapse into one another. In the ordinary way of things, stairs presuppose the support of a slope. In these impudent devices the slope is notional and only the staircase exists."

TRANS-GLOBAL ART
In the frequent portrayals of the presentation of the Virgin in the Temple, Mary, as a young girl, is often shown standing half way up a flight of stairs that lead to the Temple, symbolizing the fact that she mediates between the terrestrial world of mortals and the domain of the spirit.

Labyrinths - Selected Stories & Other Writings
cov: Labyrinths is perhaps the most common Borges collection found in the average bookstore, a tried-and-true introduction to his works with a cover unchanged since John F. Kennedy was President. Composed of selections from his major works, this collection provides an inexpensive overview of Borges? most important short stories and some of his most pointed essays. It includes most of the stories from Ficciones and El Aleph, and a good number of essays from Discusió® ¡nd Otras Inquisiciones. It is rounded off by some ?parables? taken from El Hacendor. Highly recommended for the absolute beginner.
