DAGOBAH STEW In Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, we travel to Dagobah in search of a Jedi Master named Yoda. But who knew this Jedi Master was also a master chef? The following recipe is for a dish he served to Luke Skywalker. It is a stew. Ingredients: 20 Beef cubes 1 & 1/2 cups Turnips 1 can Beef Broth 6 cups water 1/2 cup Spinach 1/4 teaspoon Nutmeg 1 tablespoon Sage salt to taste Makes 3/4 servings Brown beef cubes in butter on low/medium heat in a medium/ large saucepan ( depending on how many servings you want) until, well, brown. Add 1 can of beef broth, 6 cups of water, 1 tablespoon of sage, 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg, 1 & 1/2 cup of turnips peeled and cut into irregular cubes, and 1/2 cup of spinach. Let cook on low/medium heat for 1 & 1/2 hours. Serve in irregularly made wooden bowls. If you want to go the extra parsec, you can serve it to guests from an actiual kettle with a ladle like the one Luke uses. You can dress up your dining table with herbs, roots, and a rubber snake or two. Now for a Jedi it is time to eat as well! AUNT BERU'S BLUE MILK Who can forget the infamous blue milk!? It has become somewhat of a cult character and pop culture icon itself. This one is also probably the easiest to make. Ingredients: 1 glass of milk (skim or 1 or 2 % seem most authentic...) 2-4 drops blue food coloring Makes 1 serving Simply pour your milk into a glass and add 2 to 3 (maybe more) drops of food coloring and stir until fully mixed and you have a liquid that is an opaque light blue. This drink is best served in a Tupperware/Rubbermaid type plastic tumbler. SHMI'S PORRIDGE Although not the most visually appealing dish, Shmi's porridge deserves recognition as authentic Star Wars cuisine. It is supposed to be made from food pellets or packets that Qui-Gon Jinn gave her for her trouble in taking on extra guests for supper. Ingredients: 1 cup oatmeal water milk Makes 1 serving Basically we are followig the recipe for oatmeal for this dish. This is best served on a white plastic plate. Add a bowl of wierd friuts to yourtable such as tiny apples, kiwis, starfruit, or figs.
