The sea virtually surrounds the province and its 920,000 (est.) residents.
Nova Scotia is bounded by the Northumberland Strait and the Gulf of
St. Lawrence to the north, the Atlantic Ocean to the south and the
Bay of Fundy to the west. The only land boundary is the Isthmus
of Chignecto, shared with New Brunswick.

Most of them live along the coasts and in the river valleys. According
to the 2001 census, about 33 per cent of them are French-speaking, and
New Brunswick is Canada's only official bilingual province. Saint John is the
province's oldest and largest city with a population of 69,661. Moncton is
home to 61,046. Fredericton, the capital, has a population of about 47,560.
