| 140. TURN ON YOUR LOVELIGHT (Bobby Bland) - When this one catches fire it's hard to beat (like Halloween 2004 at Jellybeans) - a percussion breakdown with a quirky bass line, soulful harmonies or call & response vocals (depends on the mood) plus a visit from "The Flintstones". 141. HELLO I LOVE YOU (The Doors) - Sometimes part of a "Love" song trilogy ("Good Lovin", "Lovelight", "Hello..."), sometimes not. Sometimes grown men crawl on their bellies like snakes. And why are our heros named Terry and Julie ? 142. I GOT STUNG (Schroeder, Hill) - An Elvis rocker, but must admit it was the Paul McCartney version that turned my head around. 143. I PUT A SPELL ON YOU (J. Hawkins) - When this song is performed there is much weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth. I can't help it, I'm an emotional guy. 144. MOVE OVER (J. Joplin) - The Janis Joplin tune. 145. BABY'S LIQUORED UP (D. Montana) - Copped from The Beat Farmers' Country Dick Montana. (When Country Dick dropped dead on stage no one did anything about it because they all figured he was just screwin' around. Ah, Country Dick...ah, humanity.) 146. BIRTHDAY (Lennon, McCartney) - When I was a kid every band had this song in their repertoire to whip out when it was somebody's birthday. I figured that was a tradition worth reviving. 147. JOEY (J. Napolitano) - Concrete Blonde. Boy, that Johnette sings low for a chick ! 148. BRING IT ON HOME TO ME (Sam Cooke) - We do to this basically what Nazareth did to "Love Hurts" - keep it slow but heavy with lots of guitar. Cathi's vocals are an absolute show-stopper. 149. DOMINANCE & SUBMISSION (A. Bouchard, E. Bloom, S. Pearlman) - We've played a bunch of shows with Albert Bouchard's band, The Brain Surgeons, and they play a bunch of Blue Oyster Cult songs that Albert wrote. Of those this one always seemed like it would be the most fun so we copped it. 150. STOP YOUR SOBBING (Ray Davies) - Great Kinks song but we probably would have never done it if The Pretenders hadn't covered it - Cathi, and especially Chuck, are big Pretenders fans. 151. MIDNIGHT BLUES (Charlie Rich) - We often hit a pretty similar groove to that of The Detroit Cobras - except we do a lot more guitar leads. We copped this off one of their discs - and added lead guitar. 152. FIND ME A HOME (Otis Blackwell) - Another one we copped from the Cobras. 153. HEART OF STONE (Jagger, Richards) - A Stones song that was a favorite of all of ours. 154. PURPLE RAIN (Prince) - I don't care what anybody says, I think it's a great song, it's a gas to play and Cathi sings it amazingly well. 155. MYSTERY ACHIEVEMENT (Chrissie Hynde) - This was added when Chuck was in the band and has kind of fallen by the wayside since Bob joined. 156. COLD TURKEY (John Lennon) - This was Ron's idea and arrangement - slow and ominous with abstract guitar. 157. I'LL FEEL A WHOLE LOT BETTER (Gene Clark) - Cool Byrds song. I once got to open for Gene Clark. 158. WEREWOLVES OF LONDON (L. Marinell, W. Wachtel, W. Zevon) - Karen Porter first suggested working this song up for a Halloween gig at Boyle's in Canandaigua, NY. I like to think we jazzed it up a bit with the use of a dramatic stop and some truly demented guitar breaks. 159. MAGIC BUS (Pete Townshend) - Did this Who song for just a very short time back when Eric was in the band. 160. YOU REALLY GOT ME (Ray Davies) - This Kinks song has been in and out of the repertoire for years. 161. I FOUGHT THE LAW (S. Curtis) - This was in the repertoire for quite a while and when we recently tried to bring it back we couldn't remember the riff we'd written for it. |
