Yoko Kanno

Bio :

Born in Miyagi prefecture, Hat-collecting extrovert Kanno started off as a keyboardist with the pop band Tetsu 100% while she was still studying at Waseda University. She soon moved into composing for commercials, games and TV, securing her biggest audience with the sound tracks for anime such as Macross Plus, Escaflowne and Cowboy Bee Bop. People will watch, or at least listen too animie just because she's done the music.

She's really really weird. She was the inspiration for Ed, the whacked out girl hacker from Bebop. But she's the best composer working in Japan today. Kanno is also a super orchestrator, equally at home with classical music, pop, drum and bass or the jazz and blues that characterized her famous Cowboy Bee Bop sound track. Much loved by fans for her outgoing personality and impromptu conversation performances, she also has the potential to take animie too a whole new audience. People can fall in love with one of her shows before they've even seen it - yes, her music is that good.
