I was the only one she would invite to her home, best friends since we were 4 This time the house was a mess, she had to look for the phone Not in the wall, where it was before |
But she said with a smile, "Let's make a snack" Opened up the fridge, but there was nothin' in that That didn't phase her none, oh the attributes of being young She just told me to be real quiet... She went over to the couch, where her dad had passed out And took some money--from his pocket And we ran...We ran 'til we couldn't run anymore Ended up on the corner of Main next to the drugstore |
And that's what I have now... Memories of candy necklaces, icecream cones & runnin' wild... Memories of life in a small home town, the life of--a lovely, neglected child She always had a special place in my heart, and about 50 in my address book Tryin' to keep in touch with her was a chore, you never knew where to look She had a habit of livin' life on the run, She had so many choices--she never could pick one But she only wanted the good life, she only wanted love She tried to make a good wife, but that wasn't nearly enough |
Now fast forward through the lives, that led us separate ways Fast forward through the husbands, the kids & hectic days Cause all I have now... Are memories of candy necklaces, icecream cones, & runnin' wild Memories of life in a small hometown, the life of... A lovely neglected child Always wanting better, but too caught up to know Not once ever, felt the grass beneath her toes... And all I have now... Are memories of candy necklaces, icecream cones, & runnin' wild Memories of life in a small hometown, the life of... A lovely neglected child--a lovely neglected child |
