Forget U2! The best Irish band of the late 80's/early 90's was The Stunning, a Galway-based band fronted by brothers Steve and Joe Wall. They were hugely popular, topping the Irish album charts with their first two albums (debut album 'Paradise in the Picturehouse' spent 5 weeks at no. 1) and regularly packing venues throughout Ireland. Unfortunately, their failure to translate Irish domination into international success led to a sense of frustration within the band and they decided to go their separate ways in 1994.

Following the split, Steve and Joe took a month off before returning to write and record new songs in a small studio in Galway. These Galway demos attracted the attention of many UK based record companies and they were rewarded with a major deal from Columbia Records (Sony label) in January 1997. This involved moving to London to start recording again with a variety of producers who tried to alter their 'sound' continuously. The record company even wanted to change their name to 'The Ghosts'! Both parties were unhappy with the results and, after a year and a half, the brothers decided to sever their links with the company (they had to wait for the contract to expire before they were permitted to independently release their first two singles).

The bright light in this disillusioning period was the link-up with talented musician and programmer Carl Harms (their London flatmate) from Liverpool. They continued recording in their home studio in London, before returning to Dublin in May 1998 to form a  band and rehearse a live set. They imported Carl Harms and added Tallaght-drummer Rory Doyle to complete their new Dublin based four-piece, 'The Walls'.

They played their first gig in Bruxelles Bar in September 1998 and have been on an upward trend ever since -
buy their album or go to any of their gigs and you'll understand just why...
