LAKE ST. CLAIR, CANADA pg. 1 of  3

Sometime during the early '80s John 'Pip' Habil heard about a good bass fishing lake called Lake St. Clair.  Pip, always looking for a new place to fish, decided to check it out. Some of his co-workers had a trailer on the lake and they invited him up.
He was told that there were largemouth bass in the rivers that fed the huge shallow lake.  For a few years he went up in mid September and eventually a few of our gang started making the trip. We would drift with the current down the rivers and throw spinner baits up in the reeds and cattails that line the banks.

During some of these trips we boated a few big smallmouth, and we were told that the time to catch these bronzebacks was in spring. So one spring my brothers and myself, along with 'Bubba' Neikamp went up to see what was going on.

Well we ran into rough weather and did not have a chance to find out. St. Clair is a big shallow lake and can get ugly quick. We had small boats and we took a beating. It took us a few trips to finally get a handle on the smallmouth fishing during that time of year, and it was as good as everyone said.
